“This is as close as anyone has come to capturing the feeling of the real thing.”

– Las Vegas Sun

This spirited tribute recreates a famous “Summit at the Sands” hotel show, when the swingin’ group known as the Rat Pack was creating hipster legend. The free-wheeling, no-holds-barred nightclub act starred several of Vegas’ favorite sons: Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis, Jr., Dean Martin, Peter Lawford and Joey Bishop.

In “The Rat Pack Is Back!” the voice of God urges Frank, Sammy, Joey and Dean to go back and do it “just one more time.” What ensues is an uncanny recreation of one of the Rat Pack’s raucous, antic-filled performances, featuring Bishop’s hilarious comedy and performances of such standards as Sinatra’s “You Make Me Feel So Young,” “A Foggy Day,” “One For My Baby” and “All Of Me;” Martin’s “That’s Amoré” and Davis’ “Mr. Bojangles.”  Backing the singers is a swinging 12-piece orchestra.

The 5 Browns – classical music’s first family of pianists.

Whether performing individually or together in various combinations, from duo to complex five-piano arrangements, The 5 Browns reveal a deep connection to the intent of their material and bring a fresh energy and dynamic character to the color and tonal spectrum of their sound.

The 5 Browns – Ryan, Melody, Gregory, Deondra and Desirae – were the first family of five siblings ever accepted simultaneously into The Juilliard School. The quintet enjoyed their first wave of critical attention in February 2002 when People Magazine dubbed them the “Fab Five” at the same time they were featured on “Oprah” and “60 Minutes.” Their debut album also drew critical acclaim, with the New York Post proclaiming, “One family, five pianos and 50 fingers add up to the biggest classical music sensation in years.”

In the music world, they are an unprecedented concert attraction: a singular quintet of concert pianists, performing on five pianos and various ensemble combinations, dedicated to bringing classical music to the lives of people everywhere.

When The 5 Browns sit down to perform on their five Steinway Grand pianos, their eyes lock and a silent signal passes between them. And in an instant they are transformed, from “regular kids” to musical dynamos.

From Venice, Italy comes this group of master musicians. Upon their debut in 1987, Interpreti Veneziani immediately gained a reputation for the “…youthful exuberance and all-Italian brio characterizing their performances,” becoming a main attraction for both locals and visitors to the romantic city.  Playing on original instruments and specializing in Baroque music, the individual talent of the members, their expertise as soloists and ensemble musicians and the high level of performances, Interpreti has earned an enthusiastic welcome from both audiences and critics alike.

Their most recent major achievements include appearances in the Bayreuth Festival and at Stockholm’s Royal Palace during the Water Festival; in Leningrad’s Belozelsky Hall; a concert at the Osaka Symphony Hall broadcast live on Japanese radio; concerts at the Tokyo Kjoy Hall and the Yokohama Minato Mirari Hall during three tours in Japan; and participation in the Organs of the Ballarat Goldfields festival in Ballarat and Melbourne, Australia. In addition to their wide successes on the road, the group has also recorded an impressive 15 albums.

Even though it’s difficult to reproduce the Venetian atmosphere in concert halls, Interpreti Veneziani manage to do the impossible – unfold the silence of the lagoon and the romanticism of the city wherever they go.

Graciously underwritten by Kristen & Bob Gary and Anonymous

Teenage sensation turned superstar

With two Grammy Awards already under her belt, including the first Best New Artist accolade ever won by a country artist, LeAnn Rimes has proven to be a powerful force on the music scene – and she’s not yet 30 years old.  She has sold more than 37 million records, won an American Music Award, three Academy of Country Music honors and 12 Billboard Awards.  Rimes has scored several hit singles, among them “One Way Ticket,” “I Need You,” “Nothin’ Bout Love Makes Sense,” “Probably Wouldn’t Be This Way,” “Can’t Fight the Moonlight” and “How Do I Live,” which was the longest running single ever on the Billboard Hot 100, spending a record-setting 69 weeks on the chart.

Rimes started singing before the age of two and was only eight years old when she appeared on Star Search. In 1991 (before the age of 11), she released her first album, Everybody’s Sweetheart on a small independent label. Her career took off with the release of the album Blue in 1996. Blue debuted at #3 on the Billboard 200 chart and sold 123,000 copies in its first week.  At 13, Rimes was a teenage country star.

Rimes’s latest release, Family, has been met with rave critical praise and has elevated her reputation in country and pop. The album marks the first time Rimes has written or co-written every song, and the heartfelt new tracks are proof of her strong message. “Growing up suits LeAnn Rimes,” wrote the Boston Globe. “On Family, she’s a lot country and a little bit rock ‘n’ roll, pop, blues and all herself.”

Vilar Performing Arts Center in Beaver Creek presents: Sam Bush

Sam Bush, The King of Newgrass performs at the Vilar Performing Arts Center in Beaver Creek, Colorado on  January 15, 2009

Though he admits a certain discomfort with the moniker “King of Newgrass,” Sam Bush has more than earned it. He was cofounder and leader of the seminal progressive bluegrass band New Grass Revival in the 1970s and ‘80s. Bush may not be the only person responsible for newgrass – the wild bluegrass stepchild that features rock ‘n roll grooves and extended virtuosic jams – but since New Grass Revival’s dissolution in 1989, Bush has certainly been one of its most brilliant lights.

Besides helming the ever-popular Sam Bush Band, the mandolin prodigy from Kentucky has been a prodigious influence on musicians young and old. Bands like Nickel Creek, Yonder Mountain String Band and String Cheese Incident are indebted to Bush’s example.

When not heading his own band, Bush has spent the past 15 years as a super-sideman, performing alongside Emmylou Harris, Lyle Lovett and the Flecktones; spearheading collaborations with Edgar Meyer, Mark O’Connor and David Grisman; and driving nearly every “bluegrass supergroup” imaginable with his inimitable mandolin playing.

His latest record, Laps in Seven, is evidence that he’s still vital on the acoustic music scene.
