I Musici de Montreal chamber orchestra combines Mussorgsky’s compositions with large-screen animated projections  of Yuli Turovsky’s paintings. The artwork accompanies the movements of the musical piece, and the paintings have been digitized into melodic movement. This is a multi-sensory musical experience.

Punch Brothers bring bluegrass music to Beaver Creek’s Vilar

Five young and talented musicians, Punch Brothers featuring Chris Thile, have captured the attention of music lovers across several genres. As the San Francisco Chronicle asks, “Why didn’t someone think about mixing bluegrass, jazz and classical music together sooner? Chris Thile…is doing it with his new outfit, Punch Brothers, and the result is totally mind-blowing.” Mandolin virtuoso Chris Thile performed in the award-winning bluegrass band Nickel Creek. His new project showcases hot young modern bluegrass players with a cutting-edge sound that seamlessly blends bluegrass traditions with innovative compositions. Vanguard Jazz Orchestra brings its artistry to Beaver Creek

Vanguard Jazz Orchestra has been a fixture for 43 years at the famed New York
nightclub the Village Vanguard. On Thursday, January 14 they come to Beaver Creek.  Said to be the “influential jazz big band of the contemporary era: This is the band in which every student musician dreams of playing, the band that virtually every college jazz orchestra tries to sound like,” (The Sun).  Boasting a 16-piece ensemble of swinging sound,  creativity and experimentation.  Critically acclaimed and Grammy Award-winning, these legendary artists bring the hard swinging sounds straight from New York to the VPAC stage.

Piano virtuoso Angela Au performs at the Vilar Performing Arts Center in Beaver Creek Monday, March 22

Pianist Angela Au returns for her third performance on the VPAC stage on March 22 at 6:30pm with a recital of romantic classics. Au began piano lessons at age six and won her first prize, a grand championship, nine months later. In 1987, she became the first Hong Kong-born pianist accepted to the Curtis Institute of Music and in January 1990, Au appeared with the Philadelphia Orchestra, performing Mozart’s Piano Concerto K.488. Ms. Au was chosen to play for H.M. Queen Elizabeth II to honor her Royal visit to Hong Kong.

“The Pirates of Penzance, Jr.” comes to the Vilar Performing Arts Center in Beaver Creek, Colorado August 15 and 16

The Vail Performing Arts Academy will sing their version of “The Pirates of Penzance” on Saturday, August 15 at 6:30pm and August 16 at 2pm and 6:30pm. The show will be at the Vilar Performing Arts Center in Beaver Creek, and the cost is $10.

The Academy presents Gilbert and Sullivan’s most beloved operetta in a special adaptation for younger voices.
