Watch for Hot Summer Nights Eek-a-Mouse concert August 18 at the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater

When you plan your Vail, Colorado vacation, think about the concerts and performances you can enjoy in this Rocky Mountain setting. On Tuesday, August 18 at 6:30pm, Eek-A-Mouse will bring his original style to Beaver Creek. More than a quarter century of recording, global touring and residency in the suburbs of Irvine have hardly changed the dancehall godfather’s husky Kingston patois. His “original style” includes elements of “sing-jaying,” an early form of toasting with boastful catch phrases, singing and DJ work, mixed with funky vocal gymnastics and effects. Eek’s contribution to the genre was a percussive, nasally vocal style, and his talent for using the voice as a musical instrument moved The Boston Globe to call him “the Al Jarreau of reggae.” Before or after the concert, you might want to explore. Blog us about your favorite activities when you come to Vail. When you want to get outside and enjoy the summer nights at 8,150 feet, take a picnic to the Ford Amphitheater in Vail, Colorado. Those Tuesday evening concerts on the lawn with the Gore Range Mountains as a backdrop are a sweet part of the summer season in the Vail Valley. On July 28, The New Mastersounds are a four-piece British band whose modern take on vintage soul-jazz, funk and rock draws influences from Jimmies McGriff, Smith and Hendrix, as well as their mentors, The Meters. They have earned global recognition as a key band in the ‘New Funk’ scene, but purists beware, their unique blend of sounds doesn’t fit neatly into any one genre.  The New Mastersounds deliver gritty grooves and deep rhythms, their live shows getting you up dancing and hold you there. They come to Vail Tuesday, July 28 at 6:30pm for Vail’s Hot Summer Nights concert series.

OAKHURST

Tuesday, July 21  6:30pm

Hot Summer Nights in Vail, Colorado feature Oakhurst, whose reputation for torching bar and theater stages throughout the US comes from its unique sound and unbridled stage energy.

The band’s adept picking, sweet harmonies, and citybilly swagger combine with an unpretentious, go-for-it interpretation of a genre that’s often handled too reverently, sparking interest in bluegrass by folks who don’t even know Doc Watson from Doc Holliday.

Jackopierce

Tuesday, June 30  6:30pm

For one of the hardest-touring bands of the ’90s, Jackopierce slipped under the mainstream’s radar to earn a widespread following on college campuses with their acoustic folk-pop. Guitarists/singers Jack O’Neill and Cary Pierce founded the duo in 1988, honing a simple, low-key sound, centered around vocal harmonies and acoustic guitars.
