The delights brought to Vail by the Bravo! Vail Valley Music Festival are manifold. Evenings in July have been rich in the classical sounds like those of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, the Philadelphia Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic for the last 22 years. The final week in July features the New York Philharmonic Orchestra at the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater. Crowds have filled the venue on a regular basis this summer with sellout evenings that prove the popularity of this seasoned festival and the performances it presents. Festivalgoers who love to picnic arrive and find their places on the grass, enjoying an evening of fine music while they dine al fresco with friends and family. The final night of the New York Philharmonic is Friday, July 31, and it’s a perfect time to hear the sounds of this beautiful event.

The excitement of an evening at the Bravo! Vail Valley Music Festival outdoors at the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater in Vail will again take place on Saturday, July 25, at 6pm. Alan Gilbert of the New York Philharmonic will conduct and violinist Nikolaj Znaider will perform Brahms’ Concerto in D Major for Violin and Orchestra, Op. 77 and Martinu’s Symphony No. 4 for the classical evening.

On the evening of Tuesday, July 28, 6pm in Vail, Colorado the Bravo! Festival Chamber Music Series will present its Festival Commission Premiere along with works by Haydn and R. Strauss in a classical evening that will begin with a performance prelude pre-concert talk in the Vail Mountain School Lobby at 5pm. The Vail Mountain School is a new building with a beautiful stage and concert hall. Marc Neikrug, 2009 Composer-in-Residence, will perform the Festival Commission World Premiere Green Torso/Green Torso Too, a quartet for piano and strings.

The Bravo! Vail Valley Music Festival comes to Colorado‘s Vail Valley, Wednesday July 1 for performances throughout the area until August 4th. The Dallas Symphony Orchestra will play under the direction of Jaap van Zweden with Orion Weiss on piano. The program will include music by Tchaikovsky, Mozart, and Brahms. Jaap Van Zweden makes his debut in Vail as the Dallas Symphony Orchestra’s newly appointed Music Director. Although famous in his native Holland, in the United States Zweden is a relatively unknown conductor. Fred Bronstein, president and chief executive officer of the DSO said, “Japp’s enormous musical intensity and depth, and striking chemistry with the orchestra was immediate and palpable. We are thrilled to be the orchestra that will introduce this very special talent to American audiences.”

World-renowned cellist Alisa Weilerstein performs with The Philadelphia Orchestra this summer under the baton of Rossen Milanov. At only 26 years old, Weilerstein has attracted widespread attention for playing that combines a natural virtuosic command and technical precision. The Detroit News said, “This gifted musician already epitomizes the true soloist…Weilerstein displays that rare combination of technical brilliance, sensibility, and irrepressible temperament.” The intensity and passion of her playing have been compared to that of a rock star. The Toronto Star wrote, “Weilerstein plays classical music, but with the depth of soul and raw emotional energy of a diehard rocker.” Weilerstein will perform Bloch’s Schelomo, Rhapsody for Cello and Orchestra July 18 at the Gerald R. Honored by Young Concert Artists and by The Open University of Israel for her lifetime achievement in music, Ms. Zukerman continues in the 2008-09 season with a dramatic schedule as a flutist, writer, artistic director, television journalist and educator. Artistic Director of the Vail Valley Music Festival since 1998, she has contributed a great deal to its growth and development on national as well as international levels.
