The Acoustic Brotherhood Tour comes to Vilar Performing Arts Center February 27

The Grammy Award-winning Los Lonely Boys have made a niche on the American music scene. They call it Texican Rock n’ Roll, with elements of rock and roll, blues, soul, country and Tejano. The band is made up of three brothers, Henry (guitar, vocals), Jojo (bass guitar, vocals) and Ringo (drums, vocals). Their debut single “Heaven” was a Number One hit on the Billboard adult contemporary chart and reached the Top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2004. Estonian National Symphony Orchestra with pianist Joyce Yang

March 22, 2009

The esteemed 82-year old Estonian National Symphony Orchestra is one of the last great European ensembles that has not yet toured in the United States. Experience their mastery on their American debut tour, joined by that of virtuosic pianist Joyce Yang, the Van Cliburn Competition’s award winner for Best Performance and Best New Work in 2005.

Under the direction of Artistic Advisor Paavo Jarvi, the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra has recorded several internationally acclaimed discs for Virgin Classics, winning a Grammy Award in 2003 and BBC Music Magazine’s Best Orchestral Recording Award in 2006.

A Juilliard-trained musician, Joyce Yang was recognized for Best Performance and Best New Work at the Van Cliburn Competition when she was only 19. Ms. Yang has appeared with the Philadelphia Orchestra at the Mann Center, the Chicago Symphony at the Ravinia Festival, the Aspen Symphony and opened the season of the National Symphony at The Kennedy Center. In November 2006, Joyce Yang made her New York Philharmonic debut with Lorin Maazel in Avery Fisher Ha. She appeared with them again in New York City and at the Bravo! Vilar Performing Arts Center in Beaver Creek presents Dark Star Orchestra Tribute Concert

Dark Star Orchestra        March 29, 2009

“Quite possibly the most talented and accomplished tribute band out there.” - Rolling Stone

Back by popular demand, Dark Star Orchestra returns for an encore performance at the Vilar Center after playing to a sold-out crowd in 2008. Giving homage in a continually evolving artistic outlet, the Dark Star Orchestra recreates historic Grateful Dead set lists with compelling accuracy. Each night, the band performs one show from the over 2,500 that the Grateful Dead originally performed during their 30-year tenure as fathers of improvisational rock.

Dark Star Orchestra presents the complete original set list, song by song, and in order, with faithful interpretation. To date, DSO has covered more than 1,500 different Grateful Dead shows.

At the end of every performance, the band announces the date and venue where the original show took place.

Vilar Performing Arts Center in Beaver Creek presents: Cherryholmes Concert

Cherryholmes      March 10, 2009

As America’s first family of bluegrass, Cherryholmes won the 2005 International Bluegrass Music Association’s Entertainer of the Year Award. And this nod was no small feat, since their competition included bluegrass legends like Alison Krauss & Union Station, The Del McCoury Band and Rhonda Vincent & The Rage.

Debuting at #3 on Billboard’s Top Bluegrass Albums chart, their self-titled album received a 2006 Grammy nomination for Best Bluegrass Album of the Year. Their follow-up album, Cherryholmes II: Black and White, enjoyed even greater success, topping Billboard’s Bluegrass Albums chart and earning the band their second Grammy nomination.

In 2008, Cherryholmes released Cherryholmes III: Don’t Believe. The album features richly constructed songs built on effortlessly blended harmonies and masterful instrumentation.

Vilar Performing Arts Center in Beaver Creek presents: Arlo Guthrie in Concert

Arlo Guthrie’s Lost World Tour               April 11, 2009

Though Guthrie’s definitive rendition of Steve Goodman’s “City of New Orleans” may have been his only hit song in the traditional sense, he has nevertheless achieved international renown. The 18-minute, 20-second “Alice’s Restaurant,” while too long for radio airplay, is an American classic. The song “Coming into Los Angeles,” though banned from many radio stations when first released, had become a favorite by the time he played it at the 1969 Woodstock Festival, and remains a favorite today.

Guthrie’s Lost World Tour, which features his son Abe Guthrie, as well as the Burns Sisters, follows Guthrie’s first album in 12 years. Lost World was released in October 2008. This new material continues where Guthrie left off in 1996 with Mystic Journey.
