Vail CO 10th Annual Beaver Creek Rodeo Series comes back to town August 4, 11 and 18

2011 Rodeo continues August 4, 11, 18

+As they say, those Cowboys ride for “love, guts and glory” – they’ll be doing it again on Thursday evenings in August at Traer Creek. Gates open at 5pm; Rodeo events are from 6 to 8pm. For more information call 970.754.4636. Located in Avon behind Chapel Square with free shuttle service from the covered bridge in Beaver Creek Village.

The full line-up of classic rodeo events include bronc riding, calf scramble, team roping, mutton bustin’, barrel racing, bull riding and burro racing. Bring the whole family for pony rides, face painting, mechanical bull, western fare and a wide range of barbecue offered by Vail Valley restaurants beginning when gates open at 5 p.m. Yee Haw! August 4, 11, 18 Gates open at 5:00pm for kids event sign-up and pre-rodeo activities (pony rides, face painting, mechanical bull, dinner, etc), rodeo events begin at 6:00pm.

Tickets may be purchased at the Beaver Creek Information Center up to 3:00pm on the day of the rodeo, or onsite at the rodeo beginning at 5:00pm.  Tickets must be purchased in person (no telephone or mail order) except for groups of 20 or more who can order advance tickets through Beaver Creek Group Sales, telephone (866) 395-3185, no later than one week before the rodeo the group wishes to attend takes place.  Please note that the rodeo takes place rain or shine and tickets are therefore non-refundable. Tickets are not dated other than with the year so a ticket is good for any rodeo held during the summer.

BE PART OF THE ACTION:
- Kids may sign up for Mutton Bustin’ and the Calf Scramble each Thursday night once the Rodeo gates open.
- Adults ages 18 and up can put together a team of three and compete in the Burro Racing competition.
Sign up for all three of the above events at the information tent just inside the gates.

DESCRIPTION OF EVENTS:
Bareback Bronc Riding – To win this event, the cowboy must hang on to the bucking bronco with just one hand and endure 8 long seconds of whiplash, whirling, and twirling.
Calf Scramble Kids – The first five buckaroos to capture ribbons from the tails of a group of friendly calves win prizes!
Team Roping – Two cowboys, a header and a heeler work together to catch a steer as fast as possible, earning points for their skill and speed.
Mutton Bustin’ - The youngest cowboys and cowgirls show their stuff in this Rodeo favorite. The buckaroo who holds onto his or her wild-n-wooly sheep the longest brings home a trophy!
Barrel Racing – Elegant riding and precise timing are the keys to winning this intense competition which consists of sprinting into the arena and tightly turning around three barrels.
Burro Racing – For Moms and Dads – create teams of 3 to test your donkey handling and riding abilities!
Bull Riding – In this dangerous event, bull riders must overcome 2,000 lbs of angry animal angst for 8 exciting seconds.
