For a fun and busy weekend in the mountains, check out these Vail Valley activities. Take your pick:
1. At the top of the performance list, the Vail International Dance Festival is in town until August 13. This weekend, see the International Evenings of Dance I and II on Friday and Saturday evenings at the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater. Saturday evening the festival celebrates the life of former First Lady Betty Ford with a free performance and candlelight memorial. Sunday evening brings the Ballroom Spectacular.
2. Vail Mountain FAC free family evening. Get on the gondola in LionsHead and ride to Adventure Ridge for food, music, play, and fun.
3. Sprint Triathlon Bec Tri Memorial Race;
4. Minturn hosts the Saturday Farmers’ Market from 9am to 2pm; and presents free Movie Night for the family on Saturday evening;
5. Edwards has a fine Farmers’ Market on Saturday with fresh food and music. Sunday tops off the weekend with the Vail Farmers’ Market and jazz performance at Solaris;
6. Vail Rec District sponsors the La Sportiva 10K at 10,o00 Feet Trail Run;
7. Ride on over to Leadville for Saturday and Sunday “Boom Days;”
8. Go golfing;
9. For something unique, take a Leadville train ride for the WildFlower Special Tours;
10. Find a deck in any of the fine Vail area towns, park there, and people watch. Distant views are gorgeous, too.
