Vail Nature Center offers Wild Activities at Adventure Wednesdays

The Vail Nature Center is offering ample opportunities for active people to satisfy their thirst for adventure this summer with the return of Adventure Wednesdays, an assortment of eclectic activities for those ages 16 and older. Activities include lunch with a llama, a paddle trip on the Colorado River, horseback riding and more. “Adventure Wednesdays will be a great way for people to enjoy all kinds of activities,” says Nature Center Director Tom Gaylord. “Participants will enjoy not only exciting outdoor adventures but also entertaining indoor activities and games.”

Adventure Wednesdays take place through Aug. 24, with costs varying depending on the activities. The next adventure, beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 20, is Take a Llama to Lunch. Participants will spend the morning on a leisurely hike, accompanied by the llamas of Paragon Guides, learning about the gentle, curious pack animals, plus enjoying a scenic hiking experience without having to carry gear. The day-long adventure costs $89 per person and includes lunch.

Upcoming Adventure Wednesdays also include Ducky the Colorado River on July 27, which offers participants the thrilling opportunity to paddle a moderately difficult section of the Colorado River. On Aug. 3, adventurers can traverse the Flat Tops on horseback, learning about the natural and human history of the area and even stopping to explore a cave bearing Ute pictographs. The Aug. 17 adventure, Croquet at Ford Park, is free on a first-come basis and will include an afternoon of croquet for everyone. The final adventure, on Aug. 24, is Bowling Night at Bol Vail in Solaris.

n addition to Adventure Wednesdays, the Nature Center, operated by the Vail Recreation District (VRD), offers options that include plant and animal exhibits, wildflower and morning bird walks, evening beaver pond tours, a summer speaker series, a hiking club, fly fishing and stream ecology classes, nature photography classes, creekside tours, campfire story telling and star gazing, the world-class Nature Center’s summer lineup will please nature lovers and nature newbies alike.
