Attention Runners:
The Vail Recreation District (VRD) is partnering with Eagle Valley community and offering runners a wide variety of competition throughout the rest of the summer. This weekend, there are three opportunities to race on Eagle County trails and roads, including the Farmer’s Moon 5k Fun Run and 1 Mile Walk on Friday (7-15) in Eagle, the Gypsum Daze 5k Fun Run/Walk on Saturday (7-16), and the Xterra Half Marathon and 10k Trail Run on Sunday (7-17).

Following this weekend’s races, the VRD’s La Sportiva Trail Running Race Series continues July 24 with the Half Marathon Plus, the 5k and 10k@10,000 Feet on Aug. 7, the Berry Picker on Aug. 28 and the final race of the La Sportiva series, the EverGold 5k and 10k on Sept. 11.

Farmer’s Moon 5k Fun Run and 1 Mile Walk   6 p.m. Friday, July 15
Scheduled for a 6 pm on Friday, the Farmer’s Moon Run and Walk will start at the Dusty Boot in Eagle and take runners along the recreation path adjacent to Brush Creek. The finish is in Eagle Town Park at the Eagle Farmer’s Market. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Vail Valley Foundation’s Sowing Seeds program, which teaches children about how foods grow, and the accompanying nutritional message of eating healthy. Costs are $20 for preregistration or $25 on race day.

Gypsum Daze 5k Run/Walk    8 a.m. Saturday, July 16
Join the Town of Gypsum for its 100 year celebration this weekend during the annual Gypsum Daze 5k Run/Walk. The race will begin at 8 a.m. in front of the Gypsum Town Hall. The course is a 5k loop that will meander through Gypsum’s neighborhoods. Awards will be given to the top runners in their age categories. Proceeds benefit the Gypsum Library. Costs are $10 for preregistration and $15 on race day.

XTERRA Half Marathon and 10k Trail Running Race    9 a.m. Sunday, July 17
The Half Marathon and 10k Trail Running Races are an addition to this year’s XTERRA  Mountain Championships, taking place on Beaver Creek Mountain this weekend. The trail running races will begin at 9 a.m. The half marathon course is a scenic and challenging “out and back” course and follows trails of Beaver Creek and Bachelor Gulch and features a mix of single-track and double track terrain, gaining approximately 2,400 feet of elevation throughout the run. Athletes who choose to compete in the 10K Trail Run will retrace Saturday’s full XTERRA run course, gaining approximately 1,300 feet of elevation. Day-of registration will take place at 7:30 a.m. in Beaver Creek Village at the Winter Ticket Office. Costs are as follows:
Half Marathon – $40 through 7/15, $45 day of / on site
10K – $30 through 7/15, $35 day of / on site

La Sportiva Vail Mountain Trail Running Series, Presented by Suunto     Summer 2011
Named Colorado’s “Best Race Series” by Colorado Runner magazine in 2005 and 2008, the La Sportiva Vail Mountain Trail Running Race Series is an iconic event, taking runners up trails and over mountain roads, through fields and forests and over streams in and around Vail during the summer. The 2011 La Sportiva Mountain Trail Running Race Series continues this summer offering runners four more chances for miles of scenic racing, breathtaking views, trails and more. Runners can choose to test themselves and their legs on Sunday, July 24 with the Half Marathon Plus; on Sunday, Aug. 7 during the 5k and 10k@10,000 Feet; Sunday, Aug. 28 featuring the Berry Picker 5k Trail Run; and during the final race of the series, the EverGold 5k and 10k, on Sunday, Sept. 11.
