Leave your car keys at home and don’t spend a cent to fill up the gas tank. Wednesday, June 22, is Colorado Bike to Work Day, and local citizens are encouraged to bike ride or walk to work. The ECO Trails Committee, along with local bike shops and businesses, are supporting this statewide event by rewarding citizens who choose to use bicycling or walking to travel to their workplace. Volunteers will be hosting rest stops between 7 and 9 a.m. at Mayor’s Park in Vail, Malin pedestrian bridge in Dowd Junction, Avon at the U.S. Highway 6 roundabout, Edwards at the U.S. Highway 6 intersection, Mountain Pedaler in Eagle and on U.S. Highway 6 in Gypsum. Visitors to the rest stops will be offered refreshments as well as free giveaways for making the effort to ride or walk to work. All sections of the Eagle Valley Trail are open and available as a detour around the Xcel Energy utility project on U.S. Highway 6 between Edwards and Minturn. Sponsors, donors and volunteers include the ECO Trails Committee; Pedal Power; Loaded Joe’s; Sonnenalp of Vail; Vail Recreation District; Westside Café; Columbine Market; Heidi’s Deli; Town of Gypsum; Town of Vail; Mountain Pedaler; Red Canyon Café; City Market; Village Market; Bonjour Bakery; Starbucks Edwards; Moontime Cyclery; Colorado Department of Transportation; and Vail Resorts.
