Vail Volunteer Naturalist Training Days set for June 17 & June 26 from 10am to 2pm

WALKING MOUNTAINS SCIENCE CENTER SUMMER PROGRAMS

Walking Mountains Science Center in Vail Colorado offers an unforgettable experience working outdoors with people of all ages. Grow as an environmental educator and interpreter while supporting this local non-profit organization.

As a naturalist volunteer, you will receive ongoing training in interpretation.  Your main duty will be to assist our Naturalist staff in working with the public while staffing the visitor center desk at Vail Resorts’ Nature Discovery Center.

Provided Training: We will train naturalist volunteers to work as interpretive hosts, in the history and natural science of the area, and details specific to our nature centers.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Enthusiasm for educating others about the natural environment and living in the Rockies;
  • Knowledge and/or experience in natural science, education, or an environmentally-related field;
  • Excellent oral communication skills

Location: Vail/Eagle County, Colorado    Duration of Positions:

  • The Nature Discovery Center is open daily June 23, 2011 through September 5, 2011 10:30-4pm
  • The Walking Mountains Science Center campus opens August 20th 2011, specific volunteer hours TBD.

Previous volunteers have made the transition to becoming naturalist interns or educators for Walking Mountains Science Center. If you plan to attend either training day, you should dress appropriately for the weather and meet at the Lionshead Gondola at 10am.  Gondola passes are provided but bring a Vail Mountain pass if you have one.
