Daytrippers from the Vail Valley can head to Leadville for a day or an overnight and raft the Arkansas, hike a 14er, golf at very high altitude, fish in lakes and streams, and go for an ATV ride. They can bike the Mineral Belt Trail that encircles the historic mining town and picnic at Turquoise Lake or Twin Lakes south of town. There’s so much to do that spending the night is a great option at one of many lodges or historical homes. Spend the next day riding the train and relaxing in a coffee shop or local bar that enlivens the imagination to the early gold mining days. Leadville is also an excellent starting point for 14ers mountain climb adventures.
