Join artist Karl Krueger and photographer Roxanne Granzow together in the Community Room at the Vail Public Library at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26 for a discussion about the Fourth Annual Triumph Winterfest exhibition. The Arctic outdoor installation features Krueger’s five life-size polar bear snow sculptures located along the Gore Creek Promenade in Vail Village. These meticulously rendered sculptures are illuminated in the evening by energy efficient LEDs. Krueger collaborated with Pink Monkey Solutions to build lighting designs that would mimic the effect of holes within the ice floes that serve as the primary source of vitality for polar bears. The snow sculptures will remain in place for guests and residents to enjoy as long as Mother Nature allows.
Meanwhile, Granzow’s companion photography exhibit featuring Arctic polar bears is currently on display in the Community Room of the Vail Public Library through Jan. 30. Granzow moved to Vail in the 1970s and has traveled to the Arctic on four occasions. Her journeys are captured through her poetic images of polar bears in their natural environment. Her passion for photography transcends to educating young people about her travel experiences. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of Granzow’s photographs will benefit Polar Bears International.
Stop by and meet the artists on Wednesday to learn about Krueger’s inspirations behind his sculptures and Granzow’s first-hand experiences in the Arctic. For more information, call Art in Public Places at 479-2344 or the Vail Public Library at 479-2194.
