Celebrate Valentine's Day at the 2011 Miner’s Ball and Annual Wine Tasting

Looking for a great and elegant way to celebrate Valentine’s Day weekend?  Join the National Mining Hall of Fame and Museum Saturday, February 12th, for the 2011 Miner’s Ball and Annual Wine Tasting! Enjoy sumptuous wines, tours of the museum, an elegant three-course meal, and top it off with live entertainment, dancing, and games.

This year, we commemorate the 100 year anniversary of the celebratory banquet held underground at the Wolftone Mine located in Leadville’s East Side Mining District.  At the turn of the 20th century, zinc production was on the rise and Leadville was one of the great producers.  To celebrate zinc’s success, the owners of the Wolftone Mine threw a grand party on January 11th of 1909 in honor of the Wolftone ore body, which proved to be one of the largest and most productive in the district. Over 250 people came by sleigh to tour the mine and then were lowered 1000’ underground to the grand banquet hall, which was decorated with flowers and American flags. Here they enjoyed bagpipe music, a six-piece orchestra and an elegant feast.  Our event will recapture their triumphant spirit and celebrate Leadville’s mining history in grand style!

This special fundraising event will begin at 5:00 p.m. with tours of the museum and wine tasting compliments of several vendors. The three-course, gourmet dinner will begin at 7:00 p.m., and will be catered by Tennessee Pass Café (these entrees won’t be found on any menu in town!). The evening will also include a special history program and musical guests. A silent auction and Victorian dance featuring music by Randy Barnes and Friends will follow.  The party won’t end there!  We’ll have move-your-boots-and-skirts dance music till late into the night! Victorian or Miner attire is highly encouraged!

Plan an unforgettable evening to honor our heritage.  Tickets are $80 per person or a table for 8-10 at $75 per place. We are also offering special prices to members of the museum at $75 per person or tables of 8 – 10 at $70 per place
