Dancers from China and Argentina come to Vail CO

CHINA   The Vail International Dance Festival will host the Colorado debut of BeijingDance / LDTX (Lei Dong Tian Xia, which translated means “Thunder Rumbles Under Heaven”).  “The company doesn’t merely dance splendidly, it dances ferociously.”  - The Los Angeles Times

BeijingDance / LDTX was born out of a controversial and exciting time of rapid cultural change in China, becoming China’s first non-governmental and independent professional dance company. Catch a glimpse of the company at Dance for $20.10 on Tuesday, August 3, but be sure not to miss the full evening performance on Wednesday, August 4 which includes a world priemere choreographed by Sang Jijia, a rising star on the contemporary world dance scene. Wednesday’s performance also features All River Red, an exciting tour de force set to Igor Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring.

ARGENTINA     Tangueros del Sur, Argentina’s premiere Tango company, brings the world premiere of Romper el Piso (Break the Floor) to the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater in Vail.   “…the sensuous and sensual delight of the tango at its truest.” – Alastair Macaulay, The New York Times .   Tango stars Natalia Hills and Gabriel Missé evoke old-world Buenos Aires with live music and a sizzling corps of dancers. The transformation of a local folk dance into a sophisticated art form is mesmerizing as the Tango has become the hallmark of Argentinean culture.
