Eagle Vail Golf Club Hosts 6th Annual Fundraiser Tourney for BMHS
Military Personnel, Students and BMHS Supporters Comprise Teams
Eagle Vail, CO – On Friday, June 4th, Eagle Vail Golf Club will host military personnel from Ft. Carson, Battle Mountain High School athletes, students and supporters in a unique fundraising golf tourney for the BMHS football team. Sponsorships and playing spots are still open for this tournament, now in its sixth successful year. The format is a best ball scramble with a shotgun tee off at 9 a.m.
Pat Engle, Battle Mountain High School’s (BMHS) football coach created the tournament in 2005 and the inspiration has not only raised important funds over the years, but has also raised the awareness of young people about the U.S. military servicemen and women.
“I thought that it would be an honor to include our military in the fundraiser that we were planning,” said Engle. “The Carson Station in particular is very appreciative and supportive of our efforts. We’re expecting 60-65 military personnel. It’s really amazing for the students who get to interact with them and we’re always fortunate and appreciative to have the support of Eagle Vail Golf Club,” exclaimed Engle.
Ben Welsh, PGA Head Golf Professional at the Eagle Vail Golf Club echoed Engle’s sentiments. “Eagle Vail Golf Club is extremely proud to host this particular fundraiser each year,” said Welsh. “It is a unique opportunity to welcome our military to our community and to introduce them to our course. They’re supporting our country and our kids and we have the chance to give some rest and relaxation back to them,” added Welsh
Since the inception of the Tournament and continuing this year, the lead sponsor has been Vail Realty. Vail Realty owners, Bart and Andrew Cuomo, have been passionate supporters of the Battle Mountain Football program for many years, aiding in raising money, providing lodging as well as coaching. Bart Cuomo adds “We cannot think of a better event in this valley to sponsor. This uniquely local event gives us the opportunity to support our student athletes in a sport we endear. In addition, it also allows our community to show our sincere appreciation to the real heroes in America, who put their lives on the line to defend our freedom, by giving our Colorado-based soldiers the opportunity to spend quality time in the Vail Valley. It is an honor to be associated with this event.”
As our economic times change, more and more of the expenses fall outside of the small budgets that are allocated to schools for extra curricular activities. Funds raised will assist in purchasing safety equipment and uniforms as well as supplementing travel, camp and fitness training attendance.
In keeping with economic trends, $99 per person (down from $125) and $396 per foursome, will earn you a spot in this year’s BMHS Football Golf Scramble!
In addition to raising funds to support the Battle Mountain High School football program, the Battle Mountain Touchdown Club seeks sponsors to support the involvement of our participating soldiers. Military team sponsorships this year is only $875 per foursome which is the bare bones to cover their costs as they spend a well deserved weekend in the Vail Valley after recently completing a tour in Iraq or Afghanistan or make final preparations to leave for service.
