Mountain Bike Race: Hammer in the Hay at 4 Eagle Ranch LAND ROVER ROARING FORK VAIL, BEAVER CREEK MOUNTAIN BIKE RACE SERIES WEDNESDAY, MAY 26

Vail Mountain Bike Series 2010

The Vail Recreation District’s (VRD) first mountain bike race of the 2010 Land Rover Roaring Fork Vail and Beaver Creek Mountain Bike Race Series will take place Wednesday (5-26) at 4 Eagle Ranch near Wolcott. The race, Hammer in the Hay, will take racers ages eight and older through the fields surrounding the working ranch with distances from 4 miles for youth racers to 16 miles for the pro and expert racers. Racers will be able to pre-ride the course at 4 p.m. race-day.

Day-of registration will end at 5:30 p.m. The race will begin at 5 p.m. with the Youth category, followed by Never Ever, Junior, Men and Women Beginner and Sport; Men’s Vet Sport and Women’s Vet; plus Clydesdales at 5:45 p.m. The Men and Women Pro and Expert, as well as Masters, Single Speed and Vet Experts will race at 6:30 p.m.

The race will include an after party at 4 Eagle Ranch with a free keg of beer. Prizes also will be presented after the race to the top three finishers of each category, as well as a raffle prize drawing featuring products from race sponsors, area merchants and national companies. Venture Sports, the official shop of the Hammer in the Hay race, has donated a woman’s cruiser bike to be given away during the after party.

Pre-registration for individual races and the entire series is currently underway for all experience levels, ages eight and older. Team registration costs $3,100 and allows up to 20 riders to compete for the overall series title. Individual series registration costs $150 and individual race costs are $25 for pre-registration or $35 on race-day. Pre-registration for individual races ends at 5 p.m. today with registration also available until 5:30 p.m. on-site at the race.

On June 9, racers will enjoy the Eagle Ranch Classic in Eagle, followed by the Berry Creek Bash in Edwards on June 16. Racers will then head to Vail for the Davos Dash presented by the Aria Club & Spa on July 7 and the annual Mike Janelle Memorial Race taking place in conjunction with the Vail Grind on Vail Mountain July 21. A new race, the Boneyard Brawl will debut Aug. 4 in Eagle. Then on Aug. 25, racers will end the series with the Beaver Creek Blast in Beaver Creek.
