The Vail Soul Music Fest was selected as only one of two new events to receive funding by the Commission on Special Events. Dave Chapin, Chairperson explains, “Of the events applying for support from the Town of Vail’s Commission on Special Events, the Commission awarded dollars to Vail Soul Music Fest because collectively we felt this new music festival will expand Vail’s live music scene and strongly meets our criteria for funding events, including positively impacting Vail’s sense of community, having a high potential for growth and the development of sponsorships and media exposure and ultimately delivering a high estimated return on our investment.”
Thanks to the support of the Town of Vail and Commission on Special events, Vail Soul Music Fest is excited to make Vail its home this summer. Vail Soul Music Fest, formerly known as Colorado Soul Fest, has changed its name to align more with the Town of Vail. “We are excited to partner with the Town of Vail on a festival of this nature and unique to Colorado,” says Rhonda Jackson, President of Legacy Entertainment Inc., and executive founder of Vail Soul Music Fest.
Vail Soul Music Fest will introduce a weekend-long showcase of up-and-coming independent soul music artists and feature the most well-known, headlining, soul music veterans of our time, including Raphael Saadiq. Founded by longtime Colorado resident, Rhonda Jackson, the Fest is far more than just another music festival.
From Raphael Saadiq’s early days as a member of multi-platinum R&B innovators Tony! Toni! Tone!, to his work as a Grammy Award-winning producer for the likes of Mary J. Blige, D’Angelo, Earth, Wind & Fire, John Legend, Joss Stone and Macy Gray, Saadiq has always been a chameleon and a trailblazer. A modern-day blend of ’60s soul and R&B’s old-school roots, his two solo albums have garnered a combined eight-Grammy nomination further heightening Saadiq’s respect among his peers and solidifying his status as one of modern music’s most dynamic talents.
Nominated for Best New Artists on Soultrack Awards in 2008, Liv Warfield has one of the most promising voices in alternative R&B soul today and has paid her dues alongside Prince, B.B. King, The Roots, Dave Matthews Band and Al Green. Her alternative R&B soul-style is inspired by her musical heroines: Jill Scott, Nina Simone, Tina Turner, Sade and Mary J. Blige. “My strongest connection musically is with Chaka Khan and Tina Turner like me, there is a truth and power behind their voices and a rawness that resonates in me. During the multi-day celebration, festival attendees will experience live performances with sounds that share soul music origins: Rhythm & Blues, conscious Hip Hop, Alternative Rock, Blues, Neo-Soul, poetry and Spoken Word. In addition to live music performances, Vail Soul Music Fest offers educational forums, fitness and outdoor activities, inspirational seminars, and of course, celebratory soirées.
Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater will host the main stage of live performances of Vail Soul Music Fest. Vail Plaza Hotel has also signed on as the official host hotel for the Fest weekend. Tickets go on sale April 20th with special Early bird pricing through June 1 on all day two passes including: General Admission for $65, Reserved for $105 and VIP Reserved for $145.
