Celebrate 150 Years of Leadville!
2010 is a special year for Leadville – 150 years ago in April 1860, the discovery of gold in California Gulch by legendary Leadvillite, Abe Lee, was leaked to the public. This was the spark beginning the tidal wave of settlement in the Upper Arkansas Valley, eventually developing into the Leadville we know today. To celebrate this pivotal occasion in our history the National Mining Hall of Fame and Museum in Leadville will be hosting a Miner’s Ball and Wine Tasting on Saturday, April 24, in the convention center at the museum.
The Miner’s Ball grew out of our wine tasting event traditionally held on Valentine’s Day weekend. This year, we have planned an unforgettable evening to honor our heritage. This special fundraiser event will begin at 5:30 p.m. with tours of the museum and wine tasting compliments of several vendors. The three-course, gourmet dinner will begin at 7:00 p.m., and will be catered by Tennessee Pass Café (You won’t be able to find these entrees on any menu in town!). The evening will also include a special living history program featuring Abe Lee and Elizabeth “Baby Doe” Tabor, second wife of silver king Horace Tabor. Baby Doe died 75 years ago in her cabin at the Matchless Mine. A silent auction and Victorian dance with the Shadow Mountain String Band will follow the living history program. The party won’t end there! We’ll have move-your-boots-and-skirts dance music till late into the night!
Tickets are $80 per person/$150 per couple, or a table for 8-10 at $70 per place. We are also offering special prices to members of the museum at $70 per person or $140 per couple.
Reservations are requested, and tickets and more information can be obtained by contacting the museum at 719-486-1229. Parking and admittance will be through the convention center entrance on W. 10th Street. The museum is located at 120 W. 9th Street in Leadville.
