Teatro Lirico d’Europa performs Verdi’s La Traviata and Strauss’s Die Fledermaus at peformances on Saturday, February 20 and Sunday, February 21. Both performances are at 6:30 pm. Verdi’s beloved opera La Traviata, or “the fallen woman,” was inspired by Alexandre Dumas’s La dame aux camelias, telling the tale of a conflicted courtesan, her devoted lover and his disapproving father. Die Fledermaus is a story of mistaken identities, physical humor and irony. Teatro Lirico d’Europa’s singing is lusty and whole-hearted. They provide wonderful evenings of opera.
