Come and enjoy the many wonderful events happening on Martin Luther King weekend in Vail and Beaver Creek, Colorado. The weekend begins with the Youth Pond Hockey Championship where kids from the Rocky Mountain region and beyond come together to lace up their skates and face off on the ice of Nottingham Lake in Avon, Colorado. The games will be like old times on the pond, with a fire lit on the side to keep warm and a warming house just waiting for the post game chatter. This is a celebration of hockey in its truest form!
Then enjoy a performance at the world renowned Vilar Performing Arts Center in Beaver Creek. STOMP! is coming to the performance center both Friday and Saturday. The international percussion sensation has garnered awards and rave reviews, and has appeared on national television. The eight-member troupe uses everything but conventional percussion instruments – matchboxes, wooden poles, brooms, garbage cans, hubcaps – to fill the stage with magnificent rhythms. On Sunday, the Vilar Center will host The Punch Brothers Featuring Chris Thile on January 17. Chris Thile mixes bluegrass, jazz and classical music with his new outfit, Punch Brothers, “and the result is totally mind-blowing,” writes the San Francisco Chronicle. His new project showcases the talents of hot young players in modern bluegrass, which results is a cutting-edge sound of bluegrass traditions with innovative compositions.
