Miami City Ballet comes to the Vail International Dance Festival

Miami City Ballet was created in 1986 by former New York City Ballet principal dancer Edward Villella. The Miami City Ballet flourishes as one of America’s most respected Balanchine-style based ballet companies. A bulk of the repertoire is made up of the work of George Balanchine, Villella’s mentor, though the company also performs works by Jerome Robbins, Twyla Tharp, Mark Morris and others, in addition to performing standard full-length classics like Giselle and Don Quixote.

Miami City Ballet serves as the resident company in major theaters in the Fort Lauderdale, Miami, and West Palm Beach areas, performing over 100 times annually. The company recently celebrated their 20th anniversary, and features a roster that boasts over 50 dancers from all over the world including Cuba, Venezuela, China, Switzerland, France, Japan, and Germany.
