World-renowned cellist Alisa Weilerstein performs with The Philadelphia Orchestra this summer under the baton of Rossen Milanov. At only 26 years old, Weilerstein has attracted widespread attention for playing that combines a natural virtuosic command and technical precision. The Detroit News said, “This gifted musician already epitomizes the true soloist…Weilerstein displays that rare combination of technical brilliance, sensibility, and irrepressible temperament.” The intensity and passion of her playing have been compared to that of a rock star. The Toronto Star wrote, “Weilerstein plays classical music, but with the depth of soul and raw emotional energy of a diehard rocker.” Weilerstein will perform Bloch’s Schelomo, Rhapsody for Cello and Orchestra July 18 at the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater.
