Miami City Ballet Debuts in Vail August 1, 2009
Miami City Ballet was created in 1986 by former New York City Ballet principal dancer Edward Villella. The company flourishes as one of America’s most respected Balanchine-style based ballet companies. Much of the repertoire is the work of George Balanchine, Villella’s mentor, though the company also performs works by Jerome Robbins, Twyla Tharp, Mark Morris and others, and full-length classics such as Giselle and Don Quixote.
Miami City Ballet is the resident company in major theaters in Fort Lauderdale, Miami, and West Palm Beach, performing over 100 times annually. The company recently celebrated their 20th anniversary. Its 50 dancers come from Cuba, Venezuela, China, Switzerland, France, Japan, and Germany.
