A celebration of the past, present and future of jazz.
Famed Blue Note Records, jazz’s premier label, celebrates 70 years of what was, is and will be, with an all-star band of today’s finest musicians performing this rich catalog of music. Since 1939, Blue Note has introduced audiences to jazz’s biggest legends including John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock and Norah Jones.
This tour unites Music Director and pianist Bill Charlap with tenor saxophonist Ravi Coltrane, Peter Bernstein on guitar, drummer Lewis Nash, Nicholas Payton on trumpet, Peter Washington on bass and Steve Wilson on alto sax. The group will explore classic tunes by Bud Powell, Thelonious Monk, Horace Silver, Herbie Hancock, Lee Morgan, Wayne Shorter and many others.
Alfred Lion launched Blue Note Records in 1939. At the end of that year, Lion’s childhood friend Francis Wolff caught the last boat out of Nazi-controlled Germany bound for America, found employment at a photographic studio and joined forces with Lion at night to continue building Blue Note Records. Together, for the next 30 years, they recorded the greatest artists in jazz. Blue Note’s catalog of music features legendary performances and “must-have” releases that marked the history of jazz.
This all-star tour is a celebration of 70 years of Blue Note Records.
