Paragliding Vail Valley

Vail Valley Paragliding

There is nothing quite like paragliding. Enjoy soaring high above it all and get an eagle-eye view of the Rocky Mountains. Whether you are an avid enthusiast, beginner or just interested in being piloted as a tandem passenger, you will have an experience of a lifetime. Paragliding is a recreational flying sport. A paraglider is a free-flying, foot-launched aircraft. The pilot sits in a harness suspended below a fabric wing, whose shape is formed by the pressure of air entering vents in the front of the wing. Vail Valley’s mountainous terrain lends itself perfectly to the sport of paragliding. Not unlike balloon rides (refer to “Balloon Rides”), coasting at altitude on natural air currents is both exhilarating and challenging. It is also incredible peaceful once airborne without the noise of an engine, it’s not unlike flying like a bird. Paragliding trips are offered for both single pilots and tandem. Many vendors offer flights controlled by an experienced pilot, with the passenger simply gliding in the second harness. Because of the altitude and the necessity of some heavy hiking back up to the launch zone, this is not an activity for the faint at heart. Fitness and comfort with heights are essential. As with any mountainous activity, weather is a factor. Poor weather, including high winds, rain or overcast skies can lead to cancellation of the trip for the participant’s safety. Most vendors will reschedule the flight conveniently for you or will refund your trip fee; check with your provider before assuming any of these policies. Please refer to “What to Wear: Summer Mountain Activities”
