Vilar Performing Arts Center in Beaver Creek presents: “A Christmas Carol”

“A Christmas Carol”

Nebraska Theatre Caravan            December 23, 2008

Graciously underwritten by Sandra & Ron Haddock and Julie & Tim Dalton

Charles Dickens’ “ghostly little tale” has become a holiday tradition… .

Since 1979, the critically acclaimed Nebraska Theatre Caravan has brought Dickens’ timeless fable “A Christmas Carol” to over 2 million people in the United States. The chilling poverty and the luxurious wealth of 19th century London provide the dramatic backdrop to this tale. The players use music, dance and drama to weave the spellbinding fable of a man who is given the rarest of gifts: the chance to look in his heart and change his life.

A cast of timeless characters including the best known and loved phantoms in literature take the entire family on a sentimental and supernatural journey. The audience is reeled in with awe as the miserly Ebenezer Scrooge is transported through space and time in a quest for the true meaning of Christmas.

Charles Jones’ stage adaptation of the novel is filled with music and dance that take the viewer deeper into the spirit of the holidays.  Audiences recognize the traditional English carols, such as “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen,” “The Holly and the Ivy” and “Here We Come A-Wassailing” as they weave their way through the story, but many are pleasantly surprised by the more humble carols like “Susanni (Alleluia),” “Coventry Carol” and “The Other Night.”

The Nebraska Theatre Caravan is the professional touring wing of the Omaha Community Playhouse, a unique partnership of a professional company and the nation’s largest community theatre.  The Caravan has three touring companies that perform “A Christmas Carol” each November and December throughout the United States.
