The Dobson Ice Arena on Meadow Drive east of the LionsHead parking structure offers indoor public skating sessions daily in winter and summer. Skate rentals and sharpening are also available. The Black Family Ice Rink in Beaver Creek Village offers year-round skating and is located in the center of all the energy and activity of this quaint Colorado village. Scenic outdoor skating on the outdoor skating rink at the Vail Nordic Center is open, weather permitting, from November – March with breathtaking Gore Range views. Try free outdoor public skating at Avon’s Nottingham Lake a half mile from Beaver Creek’s entrance. The Vail Valley has a host of options for ice skating enthusiasts. Whether a beginner or a seasoned hockey enthusiast, there are many options. The John A. Dobson Arena provides a wide array of recreational activities for the Vail community. The 35,000-square-foot multi-purpose arena is the largest of its type on Colorado’s western slope. Dobson Arena is the site for the Vail Figure Skating Festival and the Vail Invitational Skating Championships. It is a favorite stop on the training schedule for NHL teams like the St. Louis Blues, Dallas Stars, Colorado Avalanche, San Jose Sharks, New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils. It It is home to the Vail Junior Hockey Club and Skating Club of Vail. Lessons are available for all kinds of skaters, from figure skating clinics to adult and kids’ hockey camps.
