Inflatable kayaks, otherwise known as “sit-on-top kayaks” or “duckies,” are an excellent way to learn to boat the river without the level of risk or experience required to operate a kayak. These inflatable vessels have much greater buoyancy and, therefore, better maneuverability than their official counterparts. They are also self-bailing, meaning the boater can easily slip out of the boat and swim to safety, rather than having to learn the imperative “roll” technique of kayaking. Duckies allow visitors to experience the wide range of whitewater available in the region, at a more leisurely and less pressured pace. Many vendors offer duckie rentals, with some also offering shuttling service to/from put-in and takeout points.
